Pray, observe, analyze, reflect, act. A discernment for AI and digital media that you can carry, and that you can teach.
We are being formed by screens, and now by AI, whether we choose it or not. The question is not whether we are being formed. It is whether that formation is rooted in what is true, good, and lasting, or in whatever the algorithm optimizes for today.
1 · Pray open"Lord, give me eyes to see what is in front of me." Nothing gets touched until prayer has named the moment. Thirty seconds is enough.
2 · ObserveWhat is happening? What does the screen ask of me? Just describe. Do not judge yet.
3 · AnalyzeWhat is the tool optimizing for? Whose data is it using? Ask an AI its idea of "saint," of "Catholic." You may be surprised.
4 · ReflectWhat does Christ ask of me here? What would I want my own child to do here?
5 · Pray & Actclose, then respondThe closing prayer hands the work back to God. Then act: use, modify, refuse, replace, or witness.
Why prayer sits on both ends
The framework opens with prayer and closes with prayer, and that is deliberate. Without the opening prayer, observation becomes anxiety. Without the closing prayer, action becomes performance.
Discernment without prayer is panic. Action without prayer is performance.
The teaching underneath

Common goodAn algorithm optimizes for engagement. The Church asks what the tool does to the person, and to the community the person belongs to. The whole method runs on those two questions.
The Church saw this coming
Pope Francis named the condition this method answers, years before most of us had spoken to an AI:
"All of us, but especially the young, are immersed in a culture of zapping… Without the wisdom of discernment, we can easily become prey to every passing trend."

He named the failure mode inside the Church too: even in Catholic media, "defamation and slander can become commonplace" (115). The five moves are a discipline for exactly that world.
Orar, observar, analizar, reflexionar, actuar. Un discernimiento para la IA y los medios digitales que puedes llevar contigo, y que puedes enseñar.
Estamos siendo formados por las pantallas, y ahora por la IA, lo elijamos o no. La pregunta no es si estamos siendo formados. Es si esa formación está arraigada en lo verdadero, lo bueno y lo perdurable, o en lo que el algoritmo decide optimizar hoy.
1 · Orar abrir"Señor, dame ojos para ver lo que tengo delante." No se toca nada hasta que la oración haya nombrado el momento. Treinta segundos bastan.
2 · Observar¿Qué está pasando? ¿Qué me pide la pantalla? Solo describe. Todavía no juzgues.
3 · Analizar¿Para qué está optimizada la herramienta? ¿De quién usa los datos? Pregúntale a una IA su idea de "santo," de "católico." Puede sorprenderte.
4 · Reflexionar¿Qué me pide Cristo en este momento? ¿Qué querría yo que hiciera mi propio hijo aquí?
5 · Orar y Actuarcerrar, luego responderLa oración final devuelve la obra a Dios. Luego actúa: usar, modificar, rechazar, reemplazar o dar testimonio.
Por qué la oración está en ambos extremos
El método abre con oración y cierra con oración, y eso es intencional. Sin la oración inicial, la observación se vuelve ansiedad. Sin la oración final, la acción se vuelve espectáculo.
El discernimiento sin oración es pánico. La acción sin oración es espectáculo.

El Papa Francisco nombró la condición que este método responde:
"Todos, pero especialmente los jóvenes, están sumergidos en una cultura del zapping… Sin la sabiduría del discernimiento podemos convertirnos fácilmente en marionetas a merced de las tendencias del momento."

Y nombró también el fallo dentro de la Iglesia: aun en medios católicos "se toleran la difamación y la calumnia" (115). Los cinco pasos son una disciplina para ese mundo exacto.
